2013 CHS Football Staff Head Coach: Mark Hoekstra (11th season) · Head football Coach Mark Hoekstra will be starting his 11th season as the head coach at CHS. Coach Hoekstra was a standout football player at Sheldon High School before embarking on a successful collegiate career at Buena Vista as a tight end where he was a two-time all conference performer and team captain. After graduating from BVU, Coach Hoekstra spent a season as a graduate assistant while earning his Master's Degree at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. He then served four years as an assistant coach at Carl Junction High School in Missouri before taking the head football job there for three years. In 2004, Coach Hoekstra and his family moved to the Carlisle district where he serves as a PE Teacher at the high school and is also an assistant boys track and field coach. As head coach he serves as the varsity Offensive Coordinator and coaches the offensive line/tight ends. Coach Hoekstra is married to his wife Andrea and they have two daughters, Madison (freshman and Molly (7th grade).
Varsity Assistant: Tony Smith (11th season) · Coach Tony Smith is starting his 11th season as the varsity Defensive Coordinator here at Carlisle and also coaches the defensive backs. Coach Smith graduated from Sumner High School before earning his teaching degree from Iowa State University. He is currently a Math teacher here at CHS. Coach Smith and his wife Jeannie have two sons, Holden and Liam. They reside in Carlisle where his sons will be in 7th and 5th grades.
Varsity Assistant: Jared Fletcher (11th season) · Coach Jared Fletcher is starting his 11th season with the Carlisle football program. Coach Fletcher was an all-state linebacker at WACO High School and then was a four year letterwinner at Coe College where he earned academic-all conference honors and was a team captain as a senior. He is currently teaching 6th Grade Social Studies at Carlisle Middle School and also serves as the head coach for the varsity boys track and field program. Coach Fletcher has also coached freshmen baseball and JH girls basketball and in 2011 earned his Master's Degree from Viterbo University. His main duties with the football program include coaching inside linebackers and is the team's special teams coordinator. Coach Fletcher is married to his wife Janessa and they currently reside in Carlisle with their daughter Braley who was born in July of 2014.
Varsity Assistant: Brian Keeney (19th season) Coach Brian Keeney rejoined the Carlisle football staff in 2013 after stepping away for a year after spending several years as one of the program's freshmen coaches. Keeney will be coaching the team's defensive backs this year. Coach Keeney is also an assistant track coach and works primarily with the hurdlers. He serves as an employee of the Des Moines Public School District and resides in Hartford with his wife Vicky. They have three children; Austin (ISU), Payton (Sr. @ CHS), and Katie (4th grader).
Varsity Assistant: Jason Merhroff (2nd season) · Coach Jason Mehrhoff will begin his second season with the CHS program coaching the offensive line. Coach Mehrhoff came to the program from Interstate 35 High School where he was an assistant football coach for six years. During his time there he also coached wrestling, baseball and speech. Prior to that, he was also an assistant coach at Corning High School. Coach Mehrhoff graduated from Anita High School and received his teaching degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Coach Mehrhoff serves as a high school language arts teacher at Carlisle and be the team's offensive line/tight ends coach in 2014. He is also a varsity assistant with the wrestling program at CHS.
Varsity Assistant:Kyle Joiner (2nd season) Coach Kyle Joiner was a graduate of Carlisle High school in 2011. He had two seasons as a varsity player. Coach Joiner's senior year he served as co-captain and was a unanimous first team all-district linebacker. He also broke two Carlisle's records with most tackles in a game (29) and longest interception returned for a touchdown (99 yards). Coach Joiner also played baseball , wrestled, and ran track. After High school he took his talents to Central College where he played outside linebacker. He played one season for Central and left to serve in the military. Coach Joiner joined the United States Air Force and is now a Power Production Civil Engineer. Currently he is attending Iowa State University to finish his Bachelor's Degree in a field he has not decided yet. He will coach the teams' outside linebackers in 2014 Varsity Assistant: Jim Gordon (1st season) Coach Gordon is in his first season of teaching and coaching in the Carlisle district after spending 10 years in Albia. Gordon will be teaching 3rd grade and will be coaching the teams quarterbacks and running backs. Before coming to Carlisle, Gordon served many different teaching and coaching roles at Albia after playing college football (defensive back-4 year starter/letterwinner) at Coe College from 2000-2004. Jim and his wife Katie will be residing in Pleasant Hill. Varsity Assistant: Blake Heitmeier (1st season)
Coach Heitmeier will be starting his first season on the CHS football staff but is no stranger to coaching. He also serves as a varsity assistant for the boys basketball program and head freshmen baseball coach at Indianola. Heitmeier is a 2014 graduate of Simpson college after playing football and baseball there the last four years. Coach Heitmeier is engaged and will get married in the summer of 2015.
